Nokia + Microsoft: A Bold Step Forward for Mobile Devices and ServicesIt’s no secret that mobile is permeating every aspect of businesses today. The rise of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), BTRD (Bring The Right Device) and the increase of virtual offices has had a significant effect on the workplace. As a result, a lot of companies are heavily investing in mobile devices and services to better enable new ways of working. In fact, Avanade’s own research found that businesses are redesigning traditional business processes to better enable mobile and other consumer technologies. And, those that are embracing enterprise mobility are seeing significant benefits, including improved sales, higher new customer acquisition and a greater ability to bring new services and products to market.

That’s why Microsoft’s recent purchase of Nokia’s Devices & Services division is a bold step forward that can greatly benefit companies in all industries as they aim to match the right devices and applications together to meet their needs. This agreement will bring together Nokia’s mobile devices and services together with Microsoft’s enterprise-class solutions and applications.

To enable truly effective mobile experiences for employees – and customers, marrying the right devices and applications together is a key element to business success. The right device is useless without the access employees need to the applications and information they need to do their jobs. Likewise, enterprise mobile applications are only beneficial if they are compatible and useable on a user’s chosen device.

Earlier this year, Avanade and Nokia teamed up to meet the needs of Delta Air Lines with a customized mobile solution leveraging the power of Microsoft Dynamics AX. This new application works seamlessly on Nokia Lumia phones with a custom-built application that allows flight attendants to deliver a better in-flight customer experience. And, we are continually working with Microsoft to help enterprises take advantage of Windows Phone 8 in new ways.

These examples are just the start of how companies will be able to capitalize on the combined power of Microsoft and Nokia for enterprise mobility. We look forward to continued momentum in the mobile space alongside Microsoft, and now, Nokia to make the most of mobile devices and services.
